Ressidential Solar Inspections

Some buyers assume a home inspection covers the solar system, but home inspectors will not inspect the solar array.  Home inspectors do not offer to perform solar inspections because they do not have the required expertise to evaluate a solar system.

If you have put in an offer to buy a house with solar, it is important that not only should you have a house inspection done by a professional, but also that you have a solar inspection done by a professional solar inspector.

Scope of Inspections

Every inspection starts with a document review. The inspectors need to know the approved plans and specifications so they have a reference point for all determinations.  We offer Solar Inspections that:

  • Provide inspection reports that cover the details of the  solar equipment, the current condition and function, and a list of professional experts to address any issue found during the inspection.
  • Use a custom designed report with approximately 25 pictures.  We've created an easy to read report for agents, home buyers and home sellers with images that make it easy to recognize the issues being addressed.
  • Include links to websites of parts and components for any issues being addressed in the report.
  • Deliver a written comprehensive solar inspection report within 48 to 72 hours after the on-site inspection.
  • Offer to schedule the solar inspection for the same day that the home inspection is performed, provide a verbal review and answer any questions while real state agents and clients are present.

This report is intended to give a buyer or seller, a comprehensive visual inspection to help determine the general condition of the solar array, anticipated production, and if there are obvious issues that require additional attention by a licensed solar or electrical contractor.

Solar panel manufacturers recommend regular inspections of the complete photovoltaic system to ensure that all the components,  from the panels to the inverter, the wires to conduit gaskets are in good condition.
